Yes I am still riding. Just taking it easy on my recovery week. Ride easy then hit up the fishing hole. Hit up Brown County Road Race a couple weeks ago. Surprised with my legs and finished 3rd. Not my kind of race. Going to race this up coming weekend as well. Off to go make some Guacamole. Stay tuned for more fishing photos and race reports.

Headed down to Chattanooga TN this weekend for some training. The Alderfer Bergen girls were having a training camp and I thought I would tag along. Saturday we did the 3 state 3 mountain challenge ride. Ended up 6:15 ride time, 100miles, 7000ft of climbing, 3800kj.

Sunday was gloomy and people were tired. We headed out for a nice 29mile loop. Some did 2 but we ended up only doing one. On the way back in I decided to climb back up Lookout mountain from the front side. It was an amazing climb with breath taking scenery.

Happy but still cold.

Headed up to Chicago to get my new team bike and it was warmer up there than in Bloomington.

Did some fishing today but it was way too cold.

The creek sure looks sweet in the winter but where are the fish?

Cycling gloves can come in handy when fishing in the winter months.

Alright its going to be March next week and we need some freaking better weather. Just putting it out there.

However the rims are straight and true. The tires are in good condition still with plenty of life left in them. They have been aqua-sealed and glued by a professional. Great setup for the mud.

Pam and I finally got a puppy. We found a great little mini Australian shepherd. She is 11 weeks old. Her dad was a toy Aussie and her mom was a Miniature. She is the best thing.

Ryan and I both broke our collarbones this weekend at the Harbin Park CX race. Mine was with 3 laps to go and his was in the finish. Can you believe that? Hope we can both get better soon and get back out there. Goal is to be back for Jingle Cross. Sucks because we were both having such good early seasons.

Spent yesterday afternoon wading down at Clear Creek. The Creek was just about perfect. Water was a bit higher and slightly stained. After all this rain it will become very stained and much higher. Had ok luck. Pulled down a nice largemouth and a small smallie. Still fun as hell though. The trees are starting to change. It is breath taking down at the creek. Next week I am going to try out some striper.

Chicago Cross Cup #2 Dekalb

Last weekend Pam, Maggie (our dog), and I headed up to Chicago for some cross racing. Friday was dedicated to driving up to chicago and having a relaxing evening at my Dad's condo in Evanston. Saturday Pam and I got up early and took Maggie for a 3mile walk around Northwestern's campus. Starbucks was needed prior to the walk. We then headed out for a nice spin around Evanston and Skokie. Hitting up some sweet skate parks and bike paths.

Sunday was race day. It was a early morning because Dekalb was not as close as we thought it might be. We got there in time to watch the masters race. Great job Pony shop on winning both the 40+ and the 30+. Pam then raced in the 1/2/3 womens race and had a great result of 5th place. It was then time for my race. Was not feeling so good on my warm up laps so I was not sure how the body was going to feel. I took the whole shot and never looked back. The course at dekalb was very demanding on the body. It took a lot of fitness to keep the speeds up. I ended up winning, just ahead of Scott and Popper. Got 3 wins in the books now for 2009. Not bad for only 3 weekends of racing.

Last weekend I hit up the USGP up in Madison. What a sweet venue. Saturday went great with a sweet result of 18th. Props to Ryan who killed it for a 12th place. Wish I had a little more in the tank to get up to that group. Sunday sucked. Had a great start but then I blew up. I kept racing and ended up 34th last guy not to not get lapped. Not really sure what happened. There is always the next race. Heading up to Chicago this weekend for the Dekalb race. Should be fun. I have heard good things about the course. Pulled down 2 early season victories for the Pony Shop at Kings of CX. Sweet courses! Dry as hell on Saturday and Muddy as hell on Sunday. Got a little of everything this weekend. Took a early lead both days and held it. Both days had over a min gap over second place. Legs are feeling good these days. Lets see how I do against the big dogs this weekend in Madison. Kinda wish I was racing Vegas tomorrow. There are a more photos but I can not seem to get them off the website. Anyone know how to do that when you try to "save image as" and it just comes up as a blank photo in your documents? Oh well. Here are some.

So unfortunately I got all my fly gear stolen out of my car. I have replaced most of it and have been back out to Clear Creek. I spent a few hours down at Clear Creek on Wednesday. Did not have great luck but did catch a couple fish. Caught a nice smallmouth, pumpkinseed and a creek chub.

No fish updates for awhile. Someone broke into my GTI last night and stole my 2 fly rods, my all my tackle, and my GPS. The one night I forget to lock my car. Now I am out $900 because the Insurance deductable is $1000 bucks. Try to find some cash so I can get back out to the lakes and creeks. Yesterday instead of doing the Forest TT Pam and I did some fishing. We hit up a few of the local creeks around Bloomingon. We managed to catch a ton of sunfish. Sunfish+fly rod= A Blast!

Today I headed up to Chicago to see my mom and get the cross bikes. I got started on building them. They came out pretty cool. Little bummed they did not come with matching white forks but they still look sick. Here is a pic of Pam's so far:

We also hit up the Farmers Market of Saturday and got some fresh veggies.

Wow a lot has happened and I have not been documenting it at all on this blog. I keep saying that I will post more and still don't. Hopefully cross motivates me to start posting. So what has happened.

Elk Grove: Had a great race on Saturday finishing up 3rd in the field sprint which placed me 8th. Legs were feeling great that weekend. Sunday was however crappy for me. Missed the split, Will clipped a pedal and went down with only a few to go and Bret rode himself out of out of the break. By this time I was too far back and could not make the bridge. Oh well. Will made some sweet cash with his sprinting skills.

Warsaw Crit: Had 12 out of the 30 guys there. Got in a break with Will and some Roadhouse/ Nuvo guys. Will helped out a ton covering moves by Nuvo and Roadhouse. Managed to win the sprint and take home my second "W" for the year.

Glencoe Crit: Wet and Hot. Sounds like some porn, not a bike race. Luca, Will, and I headed up to Glencoe after Warsaw for another shot at some cash. Will got in a late break that I thought was going to stick but was brought back on the last lap. I ended up 4th in the sprint with Will only a few spots behind me. Ended up being a great pay day. Very cool venue. Those Subway guys can really sprint!

Downers Grove: More rain and crashes. What a crazy race. I think that was the hardest rain I have ever riden in or let alone race in. I managed to stay upright even though there were some close calls. I felt really bad during the race, I kept drifting to the back and wanting to quit. Having so many people there cheering for me really helped me stick with it. Ended up 19th, not bad for feeling so poor.

Is my season over.....not sure. I need to decide soon if I am going to do Marion. Heading back up to Chicago to tomorrow to spend a week with my mom. Cross frames are in too so I get to get cracking on building those up. Only waiting on pedals and seats now.

Vacation

After Kim and Chris's wedding I headed up to the Chicago Crit with Isaac. The race was very cool with tons of sweet riders there. Race was going well then I broke a spoke in my rear wheel. Headed over to the SRAM tent and they hooked me up with a 404. Thanks guys! I got back in with 11 laps to go feeling great even though I spent the previous night drinking and dancing. Last lap I was sitting about 10-15th wheel, thinking this is going to be a sweet result. However on the 2nd corner people decided to slide out right infront of me and I was off into the hay bails. All that work just to get taken out on the last lap. Very Frustrating! I guess thats bike racing.

Pam came up Sunday and we headed up to Wisconsin for some well needed vacation. Here are some photos of the week:

Road season is winding down with only a few more weekends of racing left. Season has been going pretty well. Nothing outstanding unfortunately. Still waiting for that one great result. However the next couple weeks are my favorite crits all season so we will see how that goes. This weekend Kim and Chris are getting hitched down here in Btown. It should be a blast. Then off to Chicago Crit on Sunday hopefully not too hungover. Pam and I are taking another vacation up North to do some more fishing and relaxing next week. Summer is winding down slowly but honestly I am ready for the fall. It is by far my favorite season. Cross, leaves, beer, etc. Its great!

Friday: Sweet Circuit race in the rain, Got caught behind a crash on the last lap. Finished 16th.

Saturday: Grafton, Sweet race, Luca and Will rode like bad asses, Finished up 9th in the field sprint.

Sunday: Fast Easy 4 corner crit, Team rode awesome, Finished up 10th in the field sprint.

Man I have been slacking on this blog. I really have no excuses. I am not working this summer so I have plenty of free time. Been getting a ton of sleep each night, great rides and lots of chores done each day.

Last weekend Mr and Mrs Chartier came to visit for some wedding planning. Chris, Ryan, Pam and I got a great ride in on Saturday. Weather was just about perfect. Sunday I hit up the mountain bike race at Brown County. Race went better then I thought. Ended up 7th not bad for a roadie. I was the only one in the top 10 on a rigid/single speed so I felt good about that. Pam rode great as well finishing 3rd in the Cat 2's. She also rode to the race which gave her a nice hour and half warm up.

Heading back up to Chicago this weekend for the Winfield crits. I am pretty excited to race again I feel like its been forever but its only been 2 weeks.

What is up with Bloomington riders. 3 broken collar bones in one week. Heal up fast RJ, John, and Randi.

This past weekend Pam, my Dad and I headed up to Wisconsin for the Iola Bump and Jump mountain bike race. This is the first race of the WORS series. The course was dry and rough. It seemed like they cut the course only a few days before the race. This made it really rough on a rigid bike. I had a bad starting position, but worked my way up to about 15th place. I was feeling good until the second lap when my back blew up. I could not even get out of the saddle and all the bumps were killing me. I pulled out which I kind of regret but I was in too much pain and the race did not matter to much to me. Pam did awesome in her race. This was her first mtb race and she finished 2nd in beginner. Only her 4th time ever riding a mtb bike too. My dad got last but gave it everything he got and got the mtb itch back which is great.

Pam and I headed up to my place in Wisconsin after the race to relax for a week. We have been fishing a ton but not catching much. I have never seen the lakes so dead up here before, but I also have never been up here so early in the season. Weather has been great except for the wind which makes fishing in a row boat difficult when the wind is gusting more than 20mph.

Today is our last day up here in Wisconsin. Off to Iowa tomorrow for snake alley and Quad cities. Should be a blast. Not looking forward to the 8 hour drive though.

Last night I was awaking by a text message from Alan Alderfer our Team sponsor about Issac. During the group ride up in Warsaw IN Issac's chain skipped during a fast sprint and was seriously hurt. He was taken to the hospital to get stitches in his face from a chainring. Hope he is doing better. We are all thinking about you Issac. Recover fast and smoothly!

This past weekend half of the team headed over to Columbus IN for the Cereland Classic. This course is an easy one corner circuit race with a little hill. We attacked from the gun and kept launching them. Isaac counter attacked when I got brought back, and he was gone. Then Chris soon bridged up to the break with a few more riders. The rest of the race was dedicated to covering moves and making sure the break did not lap. Isaac ended up just getting nipped at the line by buffer and Chris ended up 4th. Harry finished up 2nd in the field sprint with me right behind him and Tom 2 spots behind me. 5 in the top 10 is not bad, even though it was a small race. The field was still around 35-40. Good fun. The race on Sunday got cancelled because of rain. Oh well. Next race is Brown County RR. Day after Little 500. Now that should be fun!

Yesterday I decided to hit up Brown County for some mountain biking. Weather was amazing so I hit the road in the late afternoon. Trails were almost perfect with a few muddy spots here and there. The creek crossing were full so I got a little wet, but hey that's what mountain biking is all about. I did not have to much time but got a solid 1.5 hours of shredding in. I really love it out there. All you Chicago guys, you gotta come down and hit up this trail system. Its worth the drive.

I Suck! Saturday was not my day. Going into the race I told myself just to sit in until the last lap, because last year I did a lot of work and blew my self up. So I am sitting in and hurting. I started cramping on the second lap. I am asking myself what the hell? What is going on? I kept eating and drinking hoping it would go away and it just kept getting worse. I was cramping in places I didn't know I could even cramp. Most of my teammates road really well on Saturday. I watched Will, Chris and Isaac do work up at the front while I was hurting in the middle of the pack. I made it longer than I did last year. Got popped with 8 miles too go. Oh well. Its only the first race of the year. Hope the legs come around soon. I have trained more this spring than I have ever trained in my racing career. And it showed for nothing this weekend.

Ended up 40th. Got 38th last year.

Saw the new fast and the Furious last night. Freakin Sweet!

After the airlines lost my bike Luca and I waited up until 1:30 to go get it and build it up. This would have not been a problem but we had a 7am group ride to catch. After a few short hours of sleep we hit the roads. 5 and half hours of riding and a 100miles in the sun. It was extremely windy today which made the ride how much longer.

Tubular Gluing Tip

After countless times of getting glue all over the rim I decided to try something new. Last fall I used the masking tape method when I aquasealed my cross tubulars. I thought I might try it out for gluing my road tubies too. It works great. Only really adds 5min to a glue job and its really makes everything much cleaner.

I have been cycling competitively now for 10 years. I am constantly buying and selling bike parts. Just recently I have realized that I need to keep all my crap a little bit more organized. I spent some time looking around Lowes and have come up with some great solutions.

Pam is taking all my SRAM Force off my Supersix (which I sold) but we I can't build hers until my frame comes in because I need a bike to ride. I also need a new front der. for her new Specialized because of the small tubes (31.8). Frames look sweet and I can't to build mine up later this week. I will post pics of my bike and Pam's when I am all finished. Hey I got some sweet shoes though.

Our apartment is looking even more like a bike shop, with 17 bikes, 6 frames, and god knows how many wheels. Its that season. New team bikes and Little 500 stuff makes for one bike filled apartment. Some of the team is coming down this weekend for a little training camp which should be fun. Spent all class today reading the live updates of Tour of Cali on my iphone. Wow I really am a bike dork.

Today was my day off but I could not resist. How often is it mid 60's in February. Last week we had lows in the negative digits now its heaven outside. I ventured out for a great 2 hour recovery spin. I forgot what warmth feels like.

My blogging has gotten slow since cross is over. Life is simple right now. Ride, School, relax with friends. Weather is crappy once again today with more snow. Looks like more inside riding. However last weekend I got 2 great rides in. Temperatures crested 45 degrees this weekend. It was quite pleasant except there was a foot of snow on the ground so the roads were soaked. Made for wet and dirty group rides, even with fenders.

I am finally getting the road itch going. I have all my stuff for my race bike now. All I can do now is wait for my frame.

I am sitting here on this Monday morning drinking my coffee before class looking out at SNOW. We are suppose to get 3-5 more inches tonight. I now that all you Chicago and Wiscsonsin guys are getting dumped on but last week we had temps in the 50's and now we are getting snow. I am not happy about this. Going to have to get out on the mountain bike or something. Thank god it is almost Febuary. One more month of the winter is over. Days are getting longer and the temps are getting a bit warmer. New bikes are coming soon and clothes should be here in about a month. I have been looking forward to next season. Hitting up Joe Martin, hopefully Nature Valley, Fitchburg, Tulsa Tough, Chicago Crit, Elk Grove, Winghaven, all the big NRC stuff around. We should have a killer team this year.

When Deer Fight Back!!

So yesterday I was riding with Isaac on some new roads and some crazy things went down. We were descending a pretty big hill hitting speeds around 40mph when suddenly a big buck came running across the road right in front of Isaac. POW!!! Isaac smashes into this deer going 37mph. His bike stops and he goes flying and then slides about 40 feet down the road. I honestly thought he might of been dead. I was a few feet back when all this happened. I locked up my brakes just in time to miss Isaac on the road.

He got road rash everywhere!

Ouch!

Saved his Life.

Broken front wheel, broken shifter were the only small damages to his bike. How crazy. Pam came out to pick Isaac up and I continued on my way getting 2 more hours in. Bonked bad!

Winter Blues

Weather has been horrible the past week. I have ventured out in blizzards the last 2 days. This week has been pretty epic for training. Finally it got too nasty out today to ride outside so it was finally time to hit up the rollers. I usually can't stand the rollers but today it was not too bad. I watched a cool show about working dogs on National Geographic. I got to see some cool border collies. I can't wait to get my dog next winter. With 1omin to go my freaking rear tire blew. I guess that what I get riding cheap ass Panaracer tires. But I have only had about 10 rides on them. I do not know what it is but I am way more motivated this season to train which rocks.

Watched 2 episodes of LOST last night getting ready for the season premier next Wednesday. Back in classes which I am not to happy about but I got to keep chugging away so I can graduate next December. Been chatting with Luca about heading to Tuscon in March to get a big block of training in over Spring Break. Its official we are going with Specialized bikes again this year. I am pretty excited to be on another Specialized this year. Build details will be coming soon. I think we are ordering them soon I can't wait to get my hands on a new bike.

Last weekend Chris, Kim, Pam and I ventured North up to northern Wisconsin for some XC skiing. It was a blast up there. We had never beein XC skiing before so we all learned together. We skied for 3 days and on the second day Chris and I had a epic 20k ski adventure in the back woods. Sunday we decided to try out skate skiing which was alot more enjoyable than traditional. We stayed in this sweet little cabin on a lake for super cheep. What a way to spend a winter weekend.

I am back in Bloomington now. Yesterday was my firsday day back on the bike in 3 weeks. It was great even though it was crappy out. Today it is snowing so I am heading out to the trails on my mountain bike. I can't wait. Sorry for the lack of posting I just have been busy enjoying my time off.

This whole time off thing is starting to get to me. 2 weeks down 1 to go. Since nationals I have been doing a whole lot of nothing. I took a week and half off completely from everything but on Friday I started hitting up the gym. Have been running a little bit a mile here a mile there. Also I started a little bit of lifting as well. I have been staying up til 2 and sleeping til noon. Have not done that since I was in Highschool.

Tomorrow is the last day of 2008. I have big plans for 2009. I look forward to racing my ass off 10 months out of the year. Heading up to Wisconsin tomorrow for a few days of XC skiing. Should be a blast, then back to Btown to start training.

Time off

That time of year has come. Cross is over and it is time to take some time off the bike. I have been racing since February with only a few weekends off. I have raced 48 road races/crits, 19 cross races, and a few track events. Looking back I had a great season. Nothing crazy. I would of liked to get some better results but this is only my 2nd real season of racing road and cross. I am thinking about trying to go to Europe to race cross next winter after Nationals. I am not sure how to go about doing this but if anyone knows let me know. I will be graduating next December and would love to start off my life as non student racing cross in Europe.
Team things are looking great for next season. Alderfer Bergen squad should be real sick next season. We got some new riders who really are going to turn the team around. I am looking forward to kicking some ass on the road. Also looking forward to Pony Shop Cross next fall. I know Lou has some sweet plans up his sleeve. He did not disappoint us once this year. I am going to go the whole not working route this summer and really focus on racing. See how that goes.
I want to thank everyone that has supported me this year. My wonderful girlfriend Pam, my kick ass Boss/Friend Lou for helping me out with everything I ever needed, my fokes for putting up with all my stupid expenses and problems, and my all my great Friends in and out of the cycling community.

So as you all know I was in Kansas City last weekend for Nationals. First off what a great venue and thanks for all the good wishes. Sunday morning was the collegiate race. Had a good start and got up to the top 3 early. Had a bad wreck on the first lap which made me fall out of the top 3. Ended up braking my left Red shifter off. Luckily the guys at SRAM hooked it up and got me rolling with a new one in 15min. You guys rock! Back to the race. I fell back to 10th after my crash and my bike exchange. I chased hard and worked my way back up to Isaac and Kip. Last lap I was in the group of 5-7th. I knew I had to attack on the hill so I went for it. Wayne was cheering his face off for me which really helped. I some how pulled it off and slipped my way onto the podium. I think I could of done much better if I had a clean race. I was not riding very smooth.

After the collegiate race I went and changed because I only had about an hour before the elite race. I was pretty exhausted and hurt from my two bad crashes. I got a bbq sandwich and hit the trainer to keep the legs warm. I started 3rd row which was not bad. Had a good start and felt good throughout the elite race. My goal was not to get lapped. About half way through the race I crashed and that's last I remember. I guess I crashed and hit my head real hard. Next thing I knew I was half way home from Kansas in Isaac's Car. I suffered a concussion sometime in the elite race and do not not remember where I crash or what happened. If anyone saw me crash let me know because I got no clue what happened. I am all good now I have gotten a CAT scan and all that good stuff. Time for 3 weeks off. Bring on the beer and food. More pictures to come. Thanks everyone for a great season of cyclocross. I had a BLAST!!!

Kansas City Update

Isaac and I got here after 8 hours in the car. Checked into our hotel, got dinner then called it a early night. Today we headed over to the course and got about 8 laps in. Course is super fun but tough. Ground is super tacky and trying out with the very gusty winds. Wish I had some file treads. Tomorrow should be similar conditions. Its going to be a super fast race both the collegiate and the elite. I am super stoked for tomorrow. Excited to throw down. Course is going to be good for me.

The week has been winding down. Been riding the trainer and playing some Donkey Kong. Love old school Nintendo.

Isaac and I are off to Kansas City in about an hour. 8 hours in the car I can't wait. I feel like I am bringing everything I own out there. Better to be prepared. After my flat I had to run almost whole course back to the pit. By this time Scott, Kevin, Luca, and James had all passed me. Lucky me. The run killed me, they had a huge gap. I chased hard but could only cut a few seconds off each lap. Montrose is cursed for me. Ended up 4th. Not sure what happened to James. 2 more races then I am not touching a bike for a few weeks. Pretty stoked about this weekend. Ready to rock the Collegiate race and suffer through the elite race. Thanks to all the Chicago folks who were cheering for me. It really helped. I have been super exhausted recently and have not been updating the blog. Last weekend I hit up Jingle Cross. What a fantastic venue. I got to see a bunch of my good freinds out in Iowa which was a real plus. Props to all the Pony Shop riders for kicking ass this weekend. Saturday went well for me scoring 2 more UCI points. I am up to 8 now. Sunday did not go so well. I really struggled in the sloppy mud. I am paying for all my crashes now. I am still so sore and tired from Sunday. Woodstock Report

Back in Chicago for the holidays. Pam and I decided to hit up the Chicago cup cyclocross race in Woodstock. Weather was cold and crisp with sun. We got there early for Pams race and got to get some nice laps in early in the day. Got to watch my boss/freind/teamate crush it in the masters 1/2/3 race and take the win. Way to go Lou.

As for the elite race. All I can say is that it went very well. Took the whole shot and never looked back. Started with a small gap of only 15 seconds but throughout the race it grew to over a minute. Another Chicago Vicroty in the bank. It was great training for next weekend at Jingle Cross. Got a solid week of training ahead of me. Thanks for everyone who put on a great race at Woodstock and all the support from my teamates on the Pony Shop Cross team. All the cheering really helps.

Bike Cleaning

Start with some muddy bikes.

I have put together a cleaning kit with a bucket with a variety of brushes and sponges.

Go over the whole bike with soapy hot water with the brushes or sponge.

I then use the power washer at the Local "Do it yourself" car wash. I try not to use this that much but it just works so well.

I then take the bikes home and do all the detailing and lubing.

Whole process take some time but it keeps your bikes working great and looking pimp.

Yet another Cross weekend

Saturday: Isaac and I headed up to Purdue for some collegiate cyclocross. It rained the entire drive up there. Cold and wet were the conditions that day. Fast start for the race made the legs and lungs burn like hell. Soon after the start I flatted. That's number 3 for me this season. Isaac took a strong lead and never looked back. He held all the riders off for the "W". However half a lap back was me with a flat, no spare wheels or bike. Reason behind this was I did not want to dirty up my A bike for Sunday. A freindly IU student lent me his rear wheel. All and all the wheel change set me back about 3min. I chased somewhat hard and ended up working my way back up to 7th right behind Kip and Derek

Sunday: Pam Isaac and I ventured South to Lexington KY for #10 in the OVCX series. Another cold and wet day. Temps in the 30's. Pam had a solid race, but was struggling in the mud. The race promoters thought she was in no mans land in 5th and decided pull her before her last lap. I think that is kinda ridiculus. Anything can happen in he last lap of cross races. And just because they are women you should not cut there race short. In the 1/2/3 race we started off blazing. I had trouble getting clipped in but managed to take the lead by the 3rd corner. Ryan and I soon got a gap from the field. I pulled him around for a few laps he attacked me and I could not respond. I kept messing up and his gap kept getting bigger. Ended up 2nd and Isaac finished up 5th rounding up the top 5.

GOOSE POO!!!!

This past weekend Pam and I ventured North for the some true weather cross racing. Chicago provided a perfect playing ground for this weekends cross race. Cold Cold Cold with rain and snow. We arrived Friday evening just in time for the Pony Shop Cross Dinner at EJ's Place. Thanks EJ and Luca for an amazing evening.

Saturday Pam and I slept in and a had a fest of a breakfast thanks to my rents. We then ventured out to the lakefront for some cross riding. We hit up all the good cross hot spots in Evanston. I flatted last week so I had to go into the shop and glue a new tubular on. Lou was one step ahead of me and did it for me. I really appreciate that. We hung out the shop for awhile. I miss that place. Best shop I have ever been too for sure.
Sunday was the cross race. We drove over to Northbrook on the cold rain morning in time for the Masters Race. Way to go to Lou, Mark, Dan, Jim, Roman, and EJ for ripping it up. Pam had a killer race this week. She is really coming onto form with her handling skills. She ended up 4th. As for the 1/2/3 race I was a little nervous with everyone saying how fast everyone was this year. I had a horrible start from the where I came unclipped and was top tube surfing for a bit. I got my stuff together and hammered up to 5th wheel before the first woods section. I stayed there until after the first run up and then through down my attack and never looked back. Ended up getting the win. Thanks for everyone cheering it really helped.

Last night we got back into town just in time to go see Rusted Root. It was an awesome show.

One of those days I guess. Stupid me got lazy and didn't want to switch my tubulars. So I rode them and a training ride and I got a flat. Lucky me. Those Challenge Tires are not cheep and not easy to come buy. Thanks to Lou at the Pony Shop I will back in business before Sunday. Thanks Scooter for driving out and grabbing me. I really appreciate it.

I spent this evening tweaking the bikes. I had to strip my old grifo off my rear Kysrium to get it ready to glue on Saturday. Weather is looking so so good for this weekend. I wish I had some Rhinos.

Last weekend Isaac and I headed to Cincinnati once again for another OVCX race. I got a front row call up which is nice because I am doing decent in the series. I got the whole shot which I always try to get. I led the first couple laps until I crashed myself out of contention of winning. I was being a dumb ass and looked back and then just ran into the woods. I ate it pretty good. I rolled my front tire whem I crashed. I got up quick but Isaac, Ryan, and two Barbosal guys were a ways up the course. I chased hard while watching all the attacking that was going on between Isaac and Ryan. Ryan decided to leave our summer racing team last week by just shooting us a email. Real professional bro and after promising me that he was going to ride with us next summer.
So there was defiantly some fire out on the race course. I got real close to catching them, but I got caught behind a lapped girl who crashed right in front of me in the sand pit. After that the W was long gone. I ended up working my way back up to 3rd but I just could not catch up to the Barbosal guy and Ryan. Great course. One of my favorites all year. Isaac came in right behind me in 4th.

Today Pam and I hit up the trails on the Cross bikes. It was a blast. Weather has been amazing down here. High 70's all week. Next weekend Pam and I are heading up to Evanston for the weekend. I look forward to doing a Chi Cross Cup race finally. I miss Evanston and the Pony Shop. I got a tought week at school so this mini vacation will be great. Weather calls for cold and mud. I CAN'T WAIT. I have only raced in hot and dry conditions all season.

I do not know why but I am already thinking about my cross bikes for next year. I have had my red and silver Cannondales now for 2 years. I have been brainstorming some bikes for next year. I really love cannondales. I am thinking maybe getting this one and pimping it out. All Black with Easton fork, carbon spooky brakes, carbon SI cranks, Sram Red, and Ritchey compenents. I have a thing for Cannondale BBQ paint. I have had a road bike and still have a track bike in that paint job.

Also thinking about Ridleys. They are more on the expensive side but they are very Euro. Could be very light. I do not think I will have the funds for a X-Night but maybe an X-fire.

I really do not know what I want. I am leaning towards another Cannondale. I love there geometry and how they look. What do you think I should get? I really want 2 Colnago C-50's. But there is no way I can afford those. I would have to sell my car. So far this season I have loved my SRAM red. I works so great. I really like my Reynolds as well. I think I am going to get another set of carbon wheels here soon. I want two light wheelset for both my bikes. I love cross bikes and all the cool stuff that goes along with it.

USGP Weekend

What a weekend!! This past weekend we ventured south to Louisville for the first USGP of the season. Pam and I headed down Friday night because her race was so early on Saturday morning. When we got there they said we made the reservation for the wrong night and all the rooms were booked. What the hell? While we were having a heated conversation with the lady at the front desk someone called the hotel saying that they were cancelling their reservations, lucky us.

We came stocked up for the weekend.

The actual racing this weekend did not go that well for me. It was the weekend of crashing and mechanicals. Saturday some dude came into me and broke a spoke in my front reynolds. Then Mitchell Peterson crashed into me in the sand pit. I finally got to the pit and got a new bike. I worked my way back up to 27th then on last lap my saddle slipped and was pointing nose up in the air. Had to do another bike change. Sunday I thought was going better until I crashed bad in a dry washed out corner. My "freind" Mitchell Peterson thought I was slowing him down from winning the race and said "thank you" when I crashed. This is after he was on my wheel and coudn't keep his mouth shut. I mean if you are really that sweet just pass me. I just hate when people have to be asses in races. We are all out there to have fun not be douche bags. I caught back up after my crash then got caught behind some more crashes and blew up. I just called it a day early. Rest of the crew had a great weekend of racing. Pam finished 3rd and 2nd in the 3/4's. Isaac finished strong yesterday with 21st place right behind Mitchell Peterson. Oh wait you didn't win? Andy finished 1st and 2nd in the 2/3 race. Brian finished 8th and 6th in the Masters 35. Thanks to everyone for putting on a wonderful race.

USGP Derby Cup Preview

This weekend is the first weekend of the USGP series. Many are going to venture South to Louisville. Last year was a amazing venue. Tons of riders and spectators. All the big dogs show up for the USGP's it seems. Last year I had a decent race and finished 44th the first day. The second day I broke my chain 5 minutes before the race so I had to pull out and get my drink on. This year I hope for some better results. I now have UCI points, only 6 but I will take what I can get. I should have a decent starting spot. I have been battling a cold this whole week so I hope I can get over it and get amped to race.

How to Aquaseal. 101

What you are going to need.
-Aquaseal
-Latex Gloves
-Masking Tape
-corners of a zip lock bag

Step 1. I like to cover the whole braking surface with masking tape to prevent getting aquaseal on the rim.

Step 2. Slowly apply the aquaseal to the side wall of the tire. I like to spread the aquaseal with the corners of my zip lock bag. It does not matter if you get aquaseal on the tire tread. It will come off when you ride. You are better off applying a thin coat. It is super thick and stick so make sure to wear gloves and not get it on your clothes.

Step 3. Remove the tape and let your tire dry for 24 hours.

You are all done. You can enjoy the easy clean up now after each cross race.

Hilly Hundred

This Past weekend was the Hilly Hundred down here in Bloomington. Hilly hundred was a blast this year. We had awesome weather all weekend which made it very enjoyable. I have to say riding 130 miles in 2 days was tough on my one hour cross legs. I love the fall!

Beer Fest

Tonight we are heading to Bloomington's own Beer Fest. I am pretty excited. I am not really sure what to expect. All I know is that there is over 300 different beers to taste. I know I can't taste all 300 but I am sure going to try. Tomorrow my new bike toys should be in and I can do some work on my cross bikes. This weekend there are no cross races around so we are going to ride the Hilly Hundred. I have done it in the past and it is always a blast. You got Professionals, kids, fixies, tandems, little 5 bikes, and mountain bikes. It is a hoot. Well im off to shower and get ready for beer fest. I was bad today and did not ride, but I did get out for a 30min run.

Cross Practice

Today Isaac, Pam and I set out from some sweet cross practice. We did a similiuted race and then practiced run ups at the local Highschool. I had a blast, it was perfect weather. Low 70's with an overcast sky. Here are some videos and pictures from our adventures.

This afternoon Pam and I ventured over to a Bloomington Park called Leonard Springs. We just found out about it last week. It is a pretty sweet place. Has a natural waterfall and caves. It used to be Bloomingtons water supply back in the day.

Don't Have Good Luck with C1's

Sunday went horrible for me. It was the hottest day out of the 3. Legs were tired from from the 2 previous days of racing. I had a crappy start and it went down hill from there. I was riding in the group of 19-27 for the first couple laps until my legs just blew up and I quit. I wish I would of stayed out there but there was no chance for UCI points that day. Time to recover and train for the USGP. I have some work I need to do. Getting some new bike stuff for me cross bikes which should be sweet. More to come about that down the road.
